Dr. Sneha Chakradhar has been pursuing the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam since the age of nine and is blessed to have learnt under the best Gurus in the field. Sneha was initially trained by Kalaimamani Guru K.N. Dakshinamoorthy, under whom she presented her Arangetram recital in the year 2000. She is currently a disciple of (Padmashri) Geeta Chandran, a celebrated dancer and choreographer in New Delhi. Sneha has had the opportunity to present solo performances and be part of prominent choreographic works at some of the most prestigious cultural spaces in India and abroad, including the Nehru Centre in London, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Sydney, The Lincoln Centre in New York, the Thai Cultural Centre in Bangkok, the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius. An empaneled artist with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of Culture, Govt of India and Doordarshan, she was awarded the Dandayudhapani Award 2001 for outstanding contributions to the Dandayudhapani style of dancing and was awarded with the Natya Ratna by former President of India, Mr. R. Venkataraman in the year 2000. In 2009, Sneha was featured in Time Out Magazine, Delhi as one of 25 under 30 professionals across diverse fields who are slated to be the stars of the next generation of Indians. Sneha received the Madhav Jyoti Samman from Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia in Hoshangabad, M.P. in April 2010. She was awarded the Shastriya Kala Ratna Samman at the Swami Haridas Samaroh in September 2010. The Gyandeep Shiksha Bharati educational organization based in Mathura presented her with the Savita Smriti Samman in 2012. She received the Allahabad Museum Young Talent Award and Swayamsiddha Shikhar Samman in 2017. She was awarded with the Hindi Jyoti Samman 2017 in San Jose, California and was honoured by the Indo American Festivals Inc in New York, USA. A senior dancer with the Natya Vriksha Dance Company, Sneha has travelled extensively with varied productions addressing issues ranging from drug abuse, HIV AIDS and violence to female foeticide, women's identity and empowerment. In January 2015, she had the privilege of performing for US President Barack Obama in a cultural evening hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. An academic enthusiast, Sneha received her PhD In Sociology In 2015 with Bharatanatyam as her case study, her works is in the area of sociology of dance and performance. She held the post of assistant professor at the department of Sociology at Janki Devi Memorial College, Delhi University from 2010 2013 and is currently working as a consultant, managing the arts program at all three branches of the Shiv Nadar Schools in Delhi, NCR. She has a Masters degree in Sociology and another in Theatre along with a Diploma in Development Communications. Born in a family of musicians and litterateurs, Sneha has received immense encouragement and valuable guidance in carving a niche for herself in the invigorating world of the arts.
