Cindy was born in Caracas, Venezuela, where she graduated from the Universidad Central de Venezuela as a Cell Biologist. She moved to California to further her scientific career by pursuing a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and subsequently working as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Being an educator at heart, she became involved early on in her three sons' education by designing and implementing science and math enrichment classes at their schools. She has designed such programs for a number of schools and after-school programs in Ghana, Colombia, Guatemala, USA and India. The essence of math, which is finding patterns and solving problems, is something humans find irresistible, just like music or story-telling. Creating stress-free spaces where children can play with mathematical ideas through games and puzzles is Cindy's passion and one of her favorite ways to connect with young minds around the world. When she is not busy challenging students with maths problems via the Internet or in person, Cindy loves to play percussion in an ensemble, kitesurf waves and dance.
