Purbayan Chatterjee is known as one of the topmost sitar maestros and belongs to the Senia Maihar Gharana founded by Baba Allauddin Khan. He tutored under the guidance of his father Pt. Parthapratim Chatterjee, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and received vocal training from Pt. Ajoreceivedy Chakraborty. Additionally, he took tabla training from Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. He is a recipient of Indian President awards, the Aditya Vikram Birla award, the Rotary International award, and many other prestigious awards. His album "Lehar" released by Times Music in 2008 has remained a best-seller for a year and a half. Purbayan regularly collaborates with the likes of Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain and the jazz legend Pat Metheny. During the pandemic, Purbayan with Darshan Doshi, Aditya Srinivasan, and Mahesh Raghvan founded THE FIRST EVER VIRTUAL LIVE CONCERT WITHOUT LATENCY. His new song Shiv bhakti named Shiv Shankara was released on 22nd November with the iconic and legendary musicians Ustad Zakir Hussain and Shankar Mahadevan. This song is trending on the top 200 songs on iTunes. Purbayan also collaborated with international musicians George Brooks, Pete Lockett, and Kunle Ayo and created a song Sukhino Bhavantu - Prayer for World Peace through World Music. Today he is internationally renowned and one of the most sought-after Musicians in the country and a global ambassador for Indian classical music. He has been a part of scintillating performances, which included artists like Ustad Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, Antonio Sanchez, Thana Alexa, Michael League, Gary Husband, Jordan Rudess, Shankar Mahadevan, Javed Ali, Ustad Rashid Khan Sahib, Mame Khan, Taufiq Qureshi and many more.
