An ardent art lover since childhood and a devoted learner of art, his dedication to various forms of art, especially Bharathanatyam has transformed him into an intense performer. Sujay Shanbhag began his journey under the tutelage of Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy at an age of six and expanded his vision and scope rung by rung. He is also learning Kuchipudi under the guidance of renowned danseuse Dr. Veena Murthy Vijay of Bengaluru. He started winning State level prizes in Bharatanatyam from the age of ten. His Rangapravesham in Yakshagana, a folk art of coastal Karnataka received rave reviews in the press. His Rangapravesham in Bharathanatyam in Mysore was another milestone worth mentioning. Many awards have come his way including the Gopikrishna Award by Nrityati Kalakshetram, Bhilai, Natya Mayuram by Bhilai steel Plant, Bhilai, Nritya Bharata by Natyatarangam, Bengaluru, Nritya Kaumudi by Rasaranjani, Eluru, Tamilnadu, Natya Harsha, Hoysala, Sri Gangubai Hangal Yuva Purskar, Hubballi, Chinmaya Nakshatra, Chinmaya Mission and the Manyatha Puraskar from Konkani Sahithya Academy, Government of Karnataka among others. He is a proud recipient of Bal Shree award instituted by National Bal Bhavan, New Delhi. He has received scholarship from CCRT, Central Cultural Ministry, New Delhi and Sangeeta Nataka Academy, Bengaluru among many more. Sujay has participated in various dance festivals including the Dasara Mahotsav, Mysuru, Kinkini Utsav, Mumbai, Hampi Utsav, Hospet, Nrithya Deepika, Indore, Attukal Mahotsvama, Trivandrum, Karur Natyanjali, Nrithyathi, Bhillai, Alliance Francaise, Bengaluru, Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi, Khaujraho Mahotsav, Neemrana Art Festival, Jaipur, Radharajini Festival, Guntoor, Rasika Ranjini Sabha, Chennai, Karavali Utsava, Karwar, Halebidu Utsava, ISCKON Belagavi and Hubballi, Nrithya Parva, Vadodara, Natarajotsava, Mysuru, Srishaliam by South Zone Cultural Centre, Govt. of India, Paryaya, Udupi, Attendance, Bengaluru and Delhi, Alwas Virasath, Moodabidre, Navrathri, Kollur, Hassan, Mangaluru and has also performed in all the major cities of India. He was invited by Bahrain Kannada Sangha to perform for their Kannada Rajyotsava. Despite everything, he always believes that it is only a beginning.
