Smitha S Pillai is an Indian classical Bharatanatyam dancer. She started her training in Bharatanatyam at the age of 10 years under the guidance of Guru Sunita Menon in Kala Darppanam, New Delhi. She has received a Government scholarship for holding first rank in her school in the Commerce field and also done Master's in Bharatanatyam from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh. Smitha has also been a versatile performer of art trying to understand different classical as well as folk forms. She started teaching this art at the age of 15 years as an assistant teacher with her Guru in Kala Darppanam. Smitha is a B grade artist with the National Television channel of India, Doordarshan. She has performed in various Festivals such as World Dance Day Celebrations 2008, Samarpan Utsav 2016, Korean Cultural Centre 2016, Bharat Parv 2017, Adi Shankaracharya Mahotsav 2017, and India International Dance Festival held at ICCR 2018. She also learned Mohiniyattam for about seven years, under the eminent Guru Dr. Jayaprabha Menon trying to expand her own horizon of classical forms. At present, she is the Founder and Director of the institute, Kalakshiti established in Rohini (New Delhi). As a result, she took the initiative to spread awareness in society. She also promotes this art form and makes it reachable to everyone with an unreasonable fees structure and also to help the society in development.
