Dr. Debaldev Jana is a Bharatnatyam Performer and traditionally trained in the Tanjore style of Bharatanatyam Classical Dance. He started his dance journey under the tutelage of Guru Debabrata Chakraborty in his hometown Tamluk, West Bengal. After that, he is still learning under Guru Kalamandalam V. R. Venkitt and Smt. Preetha Venkitt in Kolkata. Also, he came to the mentorship of Thanjavur Herambanathan Pillai for grasping the depth knowledge about the Thanjavur Bani of Bharatanatyam dance style. He is a Graded Artist of Doordarshan and empaneled artist of ICCR. He has performed at many prestigious platforms all over the globe such as Natyanjali-Chidambaram, Brahan Natyanjali-Thanjavur, Chinna MelamThanjavur, India Habitat Center-New Delhi, Sangeet Natak Academy-New Delhi, NadaneerajanamTirupati, Natarani-Ahmedabad, Siddhendra Dance Festival-Kuchipudi village, IIT-Madras, The Royal Society-London, Nehru Centre-London, Glasgow University, Ramakrishna Mission-Tokyo, and Pongal Festival Kawasaki. He is a winner of many competitions including West Bengal State Music Academy and Youth Festival among others. His talent has awarded him with many titles such as Nritya Bhushan, Nritya Ratna, Yuva Kala Ratna, and Nritya Kumar. He completed his B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D. in Mathematics from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and Postdoctoral research work from Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, Japan. Presently, Debaldev is exploring a new arena of research work Multimedia Analysis of Indian Classical Dance: The Case of Bharatanatyam Adavus in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Kharagpur. Presently he is working as an Associate Professor of Mathematics at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Belur Math, West Bengal.
