At the age of three, the musical child prodigy was placed under the tutelage of his father Shri Amal Patitundi a well-known Tabla player of Kolkata and a senior disciple of Tabla maestro Pandit Sankha Chatterjee. Debjit continued to nurture his passion diligently under Pandit Sankha Chatterjee for several years and thereafter he has been continuing his lessons from eminent Tabla maestro Pandit Subhankar Banerjee. Debjit has received several prestigious awards including the President Gold Medal Award from the Government of India for securing the First position in the category of Tabla in the All India Radio Competition 2009. He has been awarded the State Academy Award by the Government of West Bengal in 2003. The other prestigious awards include Pandit Nikhil Ghosh award from I.T.C Mumbai in 2010 and Pandit Prasun Banerjee Award. In the year 2015 Debjit has performed in Spain, a tour conducted by the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India. He got the opportunity to perform in the prestigious National Museum of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 2015 and also in the biggest musical festival held in Shylhet, Bangladesh. He has also performed in the prestigious Tirupati Music Festival as well as a music concert organised by the Sangeet Research Academy, I.T.C Mumbai in 2005 and 2010. His other performances include the Prayag Music Festival, State Music Conference organised by Govt. of West Bengal and the Behala Classical Music Festival. Debjit is an A graded artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He has a reputation both as a soloist and an accompanist.
