Ashique Kumar is a young Classical/Semi classical vocalist of Gwalior Gharana. He is a disciple of Pandit Laxman Krishna Rao Pandit (a renowned vocalist of Gwalior Gharana). Ashique Kumar started his musical journey at the age of eight. He got his initial training from his uncle Shree Ajay Upadhyay. For further training he took the guidance of classical music from Shree Devchand Pathak ji who is a renowned table player of Bihar. Later he went to Shree Saroj Das ji for learning the basics concept of raaga. During that period he performed in many festivals of Bihar such as the Bihar Mahostav, Sonpur Mahotsav, Shani Bahar, Bihar Divas and the Saras Basant Festival among others. In the year 2007 he was very fortunate to get a chance to perform in the presence of our former president Set Pratibha Devi Singh Patil in the National Youth Festival, Bodhgaya and in Bihar. He also won the second prize in that festival for singing. After completion of Graduation from Patna Science College, Ashique Kumar came to Delhi for further study and taleem of music. Here he started learning vocal music under Guru Shishya Parampara from Pandit Laxman Krishnarao Pandit of Gwalior gharana. For that he also got fellowship from NCPA, MUMBAI. Along with his training he also completed his M.A from Ramjas College. He did his M.Phil. in music from Faculty of Music and Fine Arts, University of Delhi. He has performed in many festivals in India and abroad including: Udaipur Tales (Udaipur Literature Festival), Mahakaal Festival (Ujjain), Malhaar Utsav (Delhi University), Bharat rang Mahotsav, Rang Sangam Festival (Tikamgarh), Panna Bharatram Festivakl Performed for Dastangoi Dastan-e- Amir Khusrau by Dilli Gharana, Youth Festival, Delhi and many others. He has also composed and orchestrated music for many Plays with different Theatre Directors of India. He has also performed for various shows on Doordarshan Patna and New Delhi. In the year 2015 Ashique kumar was awarded the Yuva Pratibha Samman' for his contribution to Indian Classical Music by Mohan Upreti Lok Sanskriti Kala Abam Vigyan Shodh Samiti. He has received the Kalashree Samman in 2019. Presently he is pursuing his PhD from Faculty of Music and Fine Arts (University Of Delhi). Ashique kumar is also taking guidance of Harmonium along with his vocal music. He is also a Grade B artist of All India Radio.
