Sharon Lowen is a distinguished performing artist, teacher, choreographer and
scholar of Odissi, Manipuri and Chhau presenting and promoting Indian classical
dance throughout India, North and South America, Europe, Africa, South and
Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Japan since she came to India over 50 years
ago as a Fulbright Scholar. As Founder of Manasa-Art Without Frontiers, she has
presented successful festivals, seminars and mentored countless students, both in
India and abroad, instilling in them the same passion and discipline that have defined
her own journey. Sharon was featured as herself in the award winning Telegu film,
Swarna Kamalam (Golden Lotus) directed by K. Viswanath to inspire the heroine to
value her own Indian dance heritage. Her Odissi guru, Padmavibhushan Guru
Kelucharan Mohapatra said of Sharon Lowen in 1987, after accompanying her 22
performance Festival of India-USA tour, “She is now one of my five best disciples
who I can unhesitatingly recommend to represent the Odissi dance form anywhere in
the world. Sharon has mastered the tradition”.
She is a master of Odissi, Manipuri, Chhau and Mayurbhanj forms of dance and has
promoted these dance forms across the world.
