Late Pandit Rajan Mishra

Padma Bushan Pandit Rajan and Pandit Sajan Mishra are Hindustani Classical maestros from the Benaras Gharana. They received their initial musical training from their grandfather's brother, Pandit Bade Ram Das Ji Mishra, and also their father, Pandit Hanuman Prasad Mishra, and from their uncle and Sarangi virtuoso Pandit Gopal Prasad Mishra. They started performing at a very young age when they were still in their teens.They gave their first concert abroad, in Sri Lanka in 1978, and soon they went on to perform in many countries across the world including Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria, USA, UK, The Netherlands, USSR, Singapore, Qatar, Bangladesh and Muscat. The Doyens of the Benaras style of singing have also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the National Tansen Samman. Besides khayal gayaki, they have also immortalized their unique renditions of devotional music.
